Check out some of our helpful tips, tricks, and advice on all things painting!
First, let's talk about smooth walls. These walls have a clean and modern look with no texture at all. Quickly rising in popularity these days, smooth textured walls are perfect for minimalist designs and a great option if you plan on adding wallpaper or artwork to your walls. However, achieving this look can be a lengthy process as it takes a much greater care and attention to detail.
Next up, we have the classic popcorn texture. This type of texture was popular in the 80s and 90s and is characterized by small bumps on the surface of the wall. While it can add some visual interest to a space, it can also be difficult to clean and can even fall off in chunks over time.
Popcorn texture is not as popular as it once was but can still be found in older homes. Removal is a great option if you are looking to brighten and open the spaces within your home especially if you have a more modern style.
Another common texture is knockdown. This texture is created by spraying a thinly mixed joint compound onto the wall and then flattening it with a trowel. The result is a subtle, irregular pattern that adds depth and dimension to a space. Knockdown texture is versatile and can be customized to create a more or less pronounced texture.
Lastly, we have orange peel texture. This texture gets its name from the small, dimpled appearance it creates on the surface of the wall. It is achieved by spraying joint compound onto the wall and then using a special nozzle to create the texture. Orange peel texture is a popular option as it is versatile and can be used in a variety of design styles. This product also comes in a can with spray nozzle absolutely perfect for small spots that need patching.
When it comes to choosing a wall texture, it's important to consider the overall style of your home and the level of maintenance you're willing to undertake. While some textures are easier to clean and maintain than others, all textures require some level of care to keep them looking their best.
